Children's library services
Libraries offer a huge range of books for children and young people from board books for babies to teenage fiction and graphic novels . To encourage parents to read to their children, most libraries hold Storytimes for the under-fives. Computer access is free and available in all libraries.
There is a wide range of books, talking books, CD, DVD and CD-ROMs for all ages from babies to young children and teenagers.
Many libraries have after school clubs, kids clubs and reading groups available, ask at your local library for details.
Libraries also work together with local schools to arrange class visits and to enjoy visits from famous children's authors and illustrators.
Carnegie Medal Shortlist
The Carnegie Medal is awarded to the outstanding children's book of the year. The winners of the Book Awards chosen by children themselves have been announced and all the books are available through your library.

Bookbug in West Lothian
Bookbug, (previously Bookstart) is supported by the Scottish Government and encourages all parents and carers to enjoy books with their children from as young an age as possible, developing a lifelong love of books.
The programmes offers free books through Bookbug Baby and Bookbug Toddler packs, issued by Health Visitors around 4 months and 15 months respectively and Bookbug Pirate given to 3 year olds in nursery settings, followed by a Primary 1 pack.
