Schools - Educational Psychology Service

Psychological Services is an innovative and supportive unit which aims to enhance the lifelong learning opportunities for children, young people and their families.   It works in collaboration with teachers and other agencies to provide the necessary support.   By giving a quality service in each of the 5 key functions of assessment, intervention, consultation, staff development and research, the Service aims to:

  • enhance, facilitate and enable children and young people to realise their full potential in all areas of their life;
  • intervene at critical points to have maximum impact;
  • support parents, schools, communities and others to help children and young people realise their potential;
  • add value to multi-disciplinary teams
  • apply evidence-based interventions founded on sound psychological knowledge.

The Team is highly visible, visitng schools, families and other agencies on a regular basis providing direct and indirect intervention.   This helps improve outcomes for children and young people in the classroom and community.

The documents on the right under 'Online Tools' will provide information on developments within the Service and its contribution to strategic initiatives within the authority.

Standards and Quality

Members of staff share the national ambition of continually striving to improve the quality of the service we provide. In our efforts to achieve this we will endeavour to do everything we can to support all of our children, young people and pupils (not just those in nursery or school) and parents to achieve their full potential. The service and everyone associated with it is committed to working hard to contribute to the provision of education of the highest quality and to ensuring that the learning experiences provided meet the needs and aspirations of parents, pupils, staff and the wider community. Essential to achieving this vision is the ambition of our service to work towards raising standards by promoting an ethos of partnership and integration with all our stakeholders and the agencies with which we work. We are committed to equal opportunities for all.

The Service's Improvement and Development Plan for 2009/12 and Standards and Quality Report for 2006/2007 are also available under online tools on the right.
