Schools - breakfast clubs
The West Lothian Rise and Shine Breakfast clubs run before school and provide young people with a free or subsidised breakfast. However, clubs not only offer a nutritious breakfast for all pupils - they include activities such as games, art and crafts, physical activity and toothbrushing.
The Clubs provide breakfast for children who might start the school day without having eaten. They help to reduce lateness or poor attendance and improve attitude, behaviour and motivation to learn.
Healthy choices are offered, providing the opportunity for children to sample and develop preferences and eat healthily.
At present there are 24 breakfast clubs in West Lothian.
The Breakfast Club working group is a partnership project between representatives from Health, Operational Services and Education Services.
Breakfasts are delivered by West Lothian Facilities Management Services or school staff.
