The Armadale Family Health programme is now completed  

Family fun health programme set for re-run

The completion of the Armadale Family Fun Health Programme was celebrated by those who took part.

The programme involved families from the area joining together and learning about healthy lifestyle and how to achieve it as a family. The celebration involved an afternoon of games, quizzes and refreshments.

Three times World Champion Triathlete Catriona Morrison presented certificates. Catriona explained how a healthy lifestyle in general has led to her achievements.

It is hoped the programme will run again in the Armadale area in the springtime.

Top award for Armadale Primary School

Enterprising pupils at Armadale Primary School have been warmly praised for scooping a top business award.

The youngsters won the Enterprising School accolade at West Lothian Chamber of Commerce's annual Business Excellence Awards.

The award was won by Classes 6 and 7, who successfully created their own newspaper.

"Heartiest congratulations to Armadale Primary School for winning this prestigious business award," said Councillor Isabel Hutton, who chairs the Armadale Local Area Committee on West Lothian Council.

West Lothian moss gather's growing attention

An area of bog in West Lothian is attracting European-wide attention.

For Blawhorn Moss, at Blackridge, is the largest and least disturbed area of raised bog in Central Scotland.

It also enjoys protection as a site of UK and European significance for nature conservation.

Now Scottish Natural Heritage has announced nine management objectives for Blawhorn Moss. These will take place between 2009 and 2015.

Vivien Gray, from Scottish Natural Heritage, spoke about the proposals at the latest meeting of West Lothian Council's Armadale and Blackridge local area committee (LAC). The proposals include promoting the moss as a demonstration site for bog rehabilitation.

The chair of the LAC, Councillor Isabel Hutton, said: "This is to be welcomed."

Pupils from Blackridge Primary School visited Blawhorn Moss at the end of November.

Seriously fun time at Girls Brigade raises £800 for Children in need

The Explorer section of 1st Armadale Girls Brigade raised £800 for Children in NeedThe Explorer section of 1st Armadale Girls Brigade raised £800 for Children in Need.

And a fun time was had by all.

For activities included tombola, chocolate fountain, pampering and guess the chocolates in the jar.

There was also a serious element as it was included in their service badge work, linked to children in world.

New group formed at school

Parents and staff at St Anthony's Primary School, Armadale (new window) , have formed a new community group.

The aim is to have frequent meetings to discuss operational procedures and fundraising, as well as raising awareness within the Armadale community.

The group are also very keen to make use of existing skills and talents on offer.

Massive drop in youth calls

The number of calls made to police in Armadale about youth problems has almost halved in the last 12 months.

And Blackridge has seen a 61 per cent drop during the same period.

The information was presented to West Lothian Council's Armadale and Blackridge local area committee.
