A lantern event to Eliburn Park proved popular on Thursday evening, 11 December  

Lantern event lights the way to park

The Friends of Eliburn Park and their families held a lantern walk.

Youngsters and adults alike took part in the walk, to Eliburn Park.

The event celebrated the start of work on the new district park facility.

It is hoped that the walk will become an annual event.

Ashley is Miss West Lothian 2009

Ashley Brown, from Eliburn, has been crowned Miss West Lothian 2009. Runner up for the second year in a row was Joanne Baird, from Bathgate. While third place was taken by Daena Lorne from Westfield. 

New head teacher for Peel Primary

Lorraine Collins has been appointed head teacher at Peel Primary School.

She arrives at the school fresh from her role at Deans Primary School, where she was head teacher for three and a half years.

Married with four children, Lorriane said: "I was delighted to be appointed as head teacher at Peel Primary School. In my short time here I?ve been made very welcome."

Andrew Miller, Executive councillor for Education said: "Congratulations to Lorraine on her appointment. Lorraine is a very able head teacher and I?m confident she will make a positive impact in leading the school forward into the future."

Extension of road closures at railway station

The north car park at Livingston North railway station will now be closed until 27 March 2009.

The railway path north between Deans North Road and Carmondean House and the railway path south from Haymarket Crescent to Deans North Road and the northwest section of the southern car park will also be closed until that date. 

The closure is to allow construction of new platforms, staircases and ramps.

Big drop in reported crime

Reported crime in Livingston North has dropped by seven per cent in the last 12 months.

The news was welcomed by the latest meeting of West Lothian Council's Livingston North local area committee.

First ever solo exhibition for Deans artist

A well-known Deans artist is to hold her first ever solo exhibitionA well-known Deans artist is holding her first ever solo exhibition this month.

Deborah Dow's 'Organic Form: Exploration of Spirituality' will be on display in the upper foyer of The Regal Community Theatre, Bathgate, to 31 December.
