Airdrie - Bathgate Rail Link

 

Project Update November 2009

Construction work is now underway at various locations along the route.  During spring 2009 work started at and near the existing stations at Bathgate, Livingston North and Uphall and on the section of former cycle path between Airdrie and Bathgate.  During the construction phase 2008 - 2010, the cycle path will be closed between Bathgate and Airdrie.  A new, relocated cycle path will be constructed and will open at the same time as the new railway in December 2010.  In summer 2009 work started at several locations along the route.  This work will included surveying the route, assessing and replacing bridges and preperatory works for the installation of the new track and signalling equipment.  There are significant movements movements of spoil and aggregate along the route.

When completed and open in December 2010, the new line will provide new direct services between Glasgow, Edinburgh and the intermediate stations. The project is promoted by Network Rail and funded by Transport Scotland.  Further information can be found on the project website.

Bathgate Station Car Park - Closure

The car park closure will mean a temporary loss on 132 spaces until the new Bathgate station opens in late 2010 with 395 new car parking spaces.  For the duration of the closure, the council is providing temporary additional car parking at the Bathgate Showground in Glasgow Road. Priority will be given as overflow car park for the cemetery.  The showground will not be available for parking during scheduled events such as the Bathgate Highland Games and during maintenance works.

Construction works - Bathgate

A section of Whitburn Road in Bathgate will be closed to the public for 12 months from Monday, 8 June 2009.  During the closure a temporary road will be in place to maintain access for local residents and for motorists travelling to and from Bathgate. This closure is to enable the existing road bridge to be replaced with a larger structure able to accommodate the new railway and over-head electrification equipment.

Construction works - Blackridge

There are works at various locations in the Blackridge area including the earthworks at the site of the new Blackridge Station.  There will HGVs for the export of spoil and import of aggregate along the route. 

In addition there are road closures in Westcraigs Road and Station Road for bridge construction works.  Westcraigs Road will be closed from 5 November to 18 December 2009.  The bridge at Station Road will be closed from 26 October with an alternative temporary route in place for the duration of the closure
