Policy and Implementation - responsible for:
- preparation of development briefs for both council and privately owned sites;

- implementation of allocated projects from the service unit's capital programme and revenue budget;
- advice on issues affecting conservation areas, listed buildings and ancient monuments; and
- implementation of the council's contaminated land strategy.

Contaminated land
West Lothian Council has an approved Contaminated Land Strategy which implements the requirements of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. The council also adopts a development-led approach to land contamination, and has secured the investigation and remediation of a number of brownfield sites across the district through the planning process.
